A blast at a gas pipeline in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar has killed one person and injured two others early on Tuesday, Reuters reported.
The officials confirmed that the massive explosion led to the destruction of two houses thereby trapping people under the debris in a residential area near ONGC’s Kalol field in Gandhinagar district.
State-run Oil and ONGC denied media reports of being the operator. Local company Sabarmati Gas, partly-owned by Bharat Petroleum Corp, also said denied being involved in the blast.
Senior Gandhinagar official Kuldeep Arya told Reuters a gas leakage could have triggered the blast.
“ONGC confirms that this pipeline, where the accident took place, does not belong to ONGC,” its local officials said. It was supporting rescue officials on the ground, it added.
However, a firm cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained.
