Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was on Wednesday unanimously elected as the leader of the NDA Legislature Party, paving the way for the formation of a new government under his leadership on November 20.

Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar — who is set to take oath as Chief Minister for a record 10th time — was chosen as the leader of the JD(U) Legislature Party before submitting his resignation to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan as the head of the outgoing government, sources said.

The JD(U) chief also reviewed preparations for the swearing-in ceremony scheduled on Wednesday in Patna. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, several Union Ministers and Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states are expected to attend the event.

Meanwhile, hectic discussions are underway among NDA allies to finalise cabinet berths and reach a consensus on the next Speaker of the Bihar Assembly.

More updates are awaited.
