A shocking incident unfolded inside the Supreme Court of India on Monday when a lawyer allegedly tried to attack Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai during court proceedings.

According to reports from Bar and Bench, the chaos erupted during the mentioning of cases before a Bench led by the CJI. The lawyer suddenly approached the dais and attempted to remove his shoe, apparently to hurl it at Justice Gavai. However, the court security personnel acted swiftly, restraining the lawyer before he could proceed, and escorted him out of the courtroom.

As he was being taken away, the lawyer reportedly shouted, “Sanatan ka apman nahi sahenge” (“We will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan”), echoing through the hall. The outburst briefly disrupted the proceedings, drawing concern from those present in Court No. 1.

Despite the commotion, CJI BR Gavai maintained complete composure, urging everyone to remain focused on the judicial work at hand. “Don’t get distracted by all this. We are not distracted. These things do not affect me,” he remarked, continuing with the day’s scheduled matters.

The brief but dramatic episode has raised serious questions about security protocols within India’s apex court. While an internal review is expected, legal observers and court staff praised the Chief Justice for his dignified and calm response in the face of the attempted disruption.
