
On Saturday, three civilians had been injured in a grenade attack by militants on security forces in the Barbarshah area of the city. The police officials said that the militants had lobbed a grenade at a joint party of the CRPF and J&K Police at Barbarshah falling under Kralkhud Police station around 6 p.m. he added that the grenade exploded on the roadside which resulted in the injuries of three civilians. Security Forces had cordoned off the area and a manhunt launched for the assailants.
The attack occurred two days after the PM Narendra Modi held a meeting with the leaders of Jammu and Kashmir for three and a half hours on Thursday which was his first engagement with the leaders after 2 years.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the meeting assured the leaders of J&K that the government was committed to reviving the democratic process through Assembly elections as early as possible.
The leaders who attended the meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence were the former chief ministers Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mehbooba Mufti, former Deputy Chief Ministers and the heads of all parties in Jammu and Kashmir.
The issue of reinstating Article 370 had been raised at the meeting of the PM and other leaders. A source said that Mehbooba Mufti took a stand at the matter that was sub judice and that the Supreme Court would take a decision on it. Mehbooba Mufti said that she would not participate in the upcoming elections until the Article 370 and Article 35A was removed which caused the disturbances in Jammu and Kashmir as it led to the loss of confidence of its people from the government.
