Jharkhand High Court grants bail to former CM of Bihar Lalu Prasad Yadav

Bench of justice Aparesh Kumar Singh of the Ranchi High Court granted bail to the RJD chief. He was convicted in Dumka treasury case of fraudulent withdrawal of ₹3.13 crore. Mr. Prasad was awarded five years jail term in the case.

On Saturday, April 17, Jharkhand High Court granted bail to imprisoned Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in the Dumka treasury case related to the multi-crore fodder scam.

Lalu Prasad is currently admitted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, for medical attention. Prasad was convicted and imprisoned in several fodder scam cases for fraudulently withdrawing money from different districts of Jharkhand in undivided Bihar in the 1990s. He was in Birsa Munda Central jail in Ranchi since December 2017.

Birendra Bhushan, IG Prisons reacted to events and said– “We will go through the order copy, once we receive it. Following the procedure, we will inform the RIMS and AIIMS, Delhi that now he is not a prisoner. Till now AIIMS has been sending Lalu’s health updates. He may be released from AIIMS directly,” as quoted by ANI.

 

 

Tejashwi Yadu, son of Lalu Yadav & RJD leader reacted and expressed his happiness to this news and said, “We were confident that we’ll get justice. Lalu ji has served half of his sentence, High Court granted him bail on that ground. We thank High Court. He’s admitted at AIIMS. We are happy he got bail but we are worried about his health.”

Tejashwi Yadav further added– “He is suffering from serious ailments. His treatment will continue. People, especially the poor, are happy that their messiah will come out now.”
