President Kovind and First Lady name new breed of tulips “Maitri” in Netherlands state visit

After 34 years, another Indian President and de jure Head of State visited the Netherlands. The President named a new breed of tulips “Maitri”.

Their Excellencies the President Ram Nath Kovind and the First Lady arrived in the Netherlands today after visiting Turkmenistan. Originally, the Royal Dutch Court of Netherlands announced, President Ram Nath Kovind will be on a state visit. As the de jure Head of State of India to the Netherlands. The President and First Lady were then presented with a new breed of bright yellow tulips. To which they were then asked to name in their honor of visit. The President named the new breed as “Maitri”. In Hindi, the word literally translates to friendship and benevolence or kinder forms of a friendship.

The President alleged that this was made to mark the enduring years of friendly relations with the Dutch Empire and the Netherlands. Later, they met with the King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.
