The announcement comes after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that the Indian Ambassador in Afghanistan and his staff will be moved to India immediately.

“In view of the prevailing circumstances, it has been decided that our Ambassador in Kabul and his Indian staff will move to India immediately,” MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted.

On Tuesday, MEA minister Dr S Jaishankar flew to New York to discuss the developments in Afghanistan and to underline the urgency of restoring airport operations in Kabul.

Hundreds of people rushed to the airport on Sunday to fly out of Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of the country. According to reports by Reuters, five people died in the airport, the reason for which is not known yet.

As reported by MoneyControl, there were no major reports of abuses or fighting in Afghanistan, but many residents stayed home and remained fearful after the insurgents’ advance saw prisons emptied and armouries looted.
