Several Cuban protestors came down to the streets to demand for an end of communist dictatorship across the country.

Reuters reported that Cubans joined protests from Havana to Santiago on Sunday. As far the report is concerned, this is one of the biggest anti-government demonstrations on the communist run island in decades.

As per Fox News, US officials on both sides of the political aisle issued a statement through social media. In the statement, they expressed their support in the demonstration and conveyed solidarity with the people of Cuba.

As cited by the publication, Florida Congresswomen Maria Elvira Salazar stated, “The Castro dictatorship doesn’t want the world to see what’s happening.”

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla called out the mainstream media for denying to provide extensive coverage on the unrest in Cuba. He further urged President Joe Biden and Secretary Anthony Blinken to summon the members of Cuban military and ask them not to fire on their own people.

Special forces jeeps, along with machine guns on their back, were spotted throughout the capital. Police presence was heavy, even when the protestors had gone home around 9 pm, reported Reuters.

Marco Rubia claimed as quoted by Fox News, “The incompetent communist party of Cuba cannot feed or protest the people from the virus.” He added that the military now must defend the people and not the communist party.

According to report, Florida U.S Representatives Mario Diaz-Balrat, Carlos a. Gimenez and Maria Elvira Salazar issued a joint statement to support the protest in Cuba.

The statement reads, “Now more than ever, the United States and the international community must support the Cuban people in their struggle for freedom. The humanitarian crisis Cuba faces right now is yet another symptom of the incompetence and absolute cruelty of the Cuban tyranny.” Further, it added, “We know what freedom means for the Cuban people, and now, while the regime uses savage violence against the people peacefully demonstrating in the streets, the world has the obligation to stand with the brave Cuban people.”

‘Reuters’ further notified that the Cuban protestors voiced ‘Diaz-Canel step down’. While on the other hand group of government supporters waved Cuban flag and chanted “Fidel”.

Beside this protest, demonstration of solidarity with the Cuban protestors also broke out at Cuban embassy in Argentina and in Miami. There is a sizeable population of Cuban immigrants and descendants in these places.

Gelet Fragela who operates the Miami-based Cuban news outlet ‘ADN Cuba’ told ‘Fox News’, ” I wouldn’t say this a protest because of the lack of COVID vaccines, I think this is a protest for the people of Cuba asking for the regime to end once and for all after more than 60 years of repression.”

Fragela added that Cuba is just like the Soviet Union. It is an organized totalitarian regime that creates a false reality and sends that to the world.

In a television speech on Sunday afternoon as cited by ‘Reuters’, Diaz – Canel who head the Communist party blamed the phenomenon on old Cold War foe the United States, which in the recent past strengthened its decade-old trade embargo on the Island.
