An Indian student was reportedly hospitalised after being shot at in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, on Friday, according to union minister General VK Singh.

He said, “A student from Kyiv was reported to have been shot (at) and was immediately admitted to the hospital in Kyiv, The Indian embassy had earlier clarified on priority that everyone should leave Kyiv. In the event of war, a bullet does not look at anyone’s religion and nationality.”

Prior to this, an Indian student was killed in a missile attack in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city. At Kharkiv National Medical University, Naveen Shekarappa Gyanagoudar was a fourth-year medical student. The 21-year-old had gotten out of his residence early in the morning to go food shopping. He was in line when the region was apparently hit by Russian missile strikes. His death has reignited fears for the security of Indians in the war-torn nation, where Moscow launched its offensive last week.

Apart from this, Chandan Jindal, a Punjabi student who was hospitalised in Ukraine last month, died earlier this week due to a sudden stroke. The 22-year-old was enrolled at the National Pirogov Memorial Medical University’s fourth year.

The administration announced on Thursday that around 18,000 Indians had returned to the country in the last seven days, with another 7,000 anticipated to return in the next two days.

According to Arindam Bagchi, spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs, “A total of 18,000 Indian nationals have left Ukraine since our first advisory was released. 30 flights under Operation Ganga have brought back 6,400 Indians from Ukraine so far. In the next 24 hours, 18 flights have been scheduled.”

The Russian attack on Ukraine is already on its ninth day. Many people already lost their lives while many people have left Ukraine.
