US President Joe Biden on Saturday said in a statement that the partnership between India and the US was “more important than ever”, due to the pandemic which poses great challenges to nations. The statement was released on the eve of India’s 75th Independence Day.

“Together, we must show the world that our two great and diverse democracies can deliver for people everywhere,” he said.

“This past year, our nations have come together in new ways as we tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, including working in partnership with Japan and Australia—through the Quad—to expand global manufacturing of safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines and to strengthen our “last-mile” coordination to reach people throughout the Indo-Pacific,” Biden said.

In March this year, the first Quadrilateral Framework (QUAD) summit was held, which brought together the US, Australia, India, and Japan. During the summit, the leaders joined hands to tackle various issues like climate change and vaccine production.

Biden also said that the special bond between India and the US was based on the “foundational commitment to respecting the will of the people through democracy.”

One of the main themes of the Biden administration was to control the rising tensions with China. During the G7 summit, the world leaders called out on China for the first time, because of the threats imposed by the country.
