30 kgs of 24 carat Gold found “camouflaged” in Diplomatic Baggage of Consulate Charge d’Affairs of UAE

The contraband arrived in a diplomatic consignment was meant for the Charge d’Affaires of the UAE.

We have learnt from a tweet that on 5th July 2020, at the Trivandrum Airport, 30 kilograms of 24-carat gold worth Rs 14.82 crore was found “camouflaged” in diplomatic baggage which was addressed to the “Consulate Charge d’Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE)” in Thiruvananthapuram. The contraband arrived in a diplomatic consignment was meant for the Charge d’Affaires of the UAE.

 

 

National Investigation Agency (NIA) on July 10 named Sarith, Swapna Prabha Suresh, and Sandeep Nair of Thiruvananthapuram and Fazil Fareed of Ernakulum in the case. Swapna Suresh, a former executive secretary at the UAE Consulate-General’s office, was arrested in a dramatic way as the primary suspect in the Kerala gold smuggling case. Before the arrest, she went into hiding.

On July 5, the incident happened in Kerala, the state commonly known for gold smuggling.
