India and Pakistan have reached a mutual understanding to cease all military action and firing across land, air, and sea, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Friday.
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, in a separate statement, reiterated India’s position: “India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so.”
In a statement, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called his Indian counterpart at 15:35 IST, and it was agreed that hostilities would cease from 17:00 IST today. Both sides have issued instructions to implement the understanding immediately.
The DGMOs of both countries will speak again on May 12 at 12:00 IST to follow up on the situation.
The ceasefire understanding marks a significant development following weeks of heightened cross-border tensions.
