On Wednesday, the National Security Advisors of member countries have vowed to cooperate in the joint fight against extremism, international terrorism, religious radicalism as well as separatism during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) which took place in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

The meeting was addressed by the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon. According to the official statement, special attention was given to the ‘current military and political situation in Afghanistan’ along with the risk of ‘escalation’.

As per exclusive details of the meeting, the countries discussed about cooperating against religious radicalism and the increasing risks of transnational organized crime such as arms and drug trafficking.

It was emphasized that SCO’s regional anti-terrorism structure could play a significant role to ensure regional security and strengthening relations between member states in combating threats and challenges of the modern world.

The members also talked about cooperation between them in ensuring reliable information, fighting against cybercrime and the problems of biological and food securities in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.

NSA Ajit Doval and Pakistan NSA Moeed Yusuf had attended the meeting. Earlier, Yusuf had said that there was no possibility of a bilateral meeting with Doval on the sidelines of the SCO meet.

In September 2020, Doval had quit the SCO’s virtual meeting after Pakistan displayed a fictitious map that violated the gathering’s agenda.

However, in April 2021, Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed stated that a stable relationship between both nations would unlock the potential of South as well as Central Asia by ensuring connectivity.

India and Pakistan in the month of February had accepted to strictly observe the 2003 ceasefire agreement.
