Hathras Gangrape Case: Police deployed at crime scene ahead of CBI Team’s arrival

Police personnel have been deployed at the Hathras Gangrape Case site ahead of the Central Bureau of Investigation team’s arrival on Tuesday.

Hathras, Uttar Pradesh: Police personnel have been deployed at the Hathras Gangrape Case site ahead of the Central Bureau of Investigation team’s arrival on Tuesday. The CBI team will probe into the gang-rape and murder of a 20-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district by a group of that claim to be belonging to the alleged “upper caste”. The case has triggered a Pan-India outrage.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath had recommended a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last week even though the ruling BJP dismissed the protests as a “political stunt” under flaming criticism and outcry over the incident after the probe by the Allahabad High Court.

A large part of the criticism is being addressed to the UP government’s way of handling the case, including its mistreatment of the victim’s traumatised family, whom they allegedly locked in their own home to secretly cremate their daughter at night.

The 20-year-old woman was gang-raped by four men of her village on September 14 and died two weeks later after sustaining severe injuries in a savage assault that might be compared to the 2012  Delhi gang rape – an incident that triggered nationwide protests and calls for stricter laws to prevent crimes against women.

UP police, accused of misleading the complaint, has claimed there was no rape and cited a forensic report that said it found no semen traces to support their claim. This has, however, been disagreed by experts who say the samples were taken 11 days post-attack.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s administration has also been accused of trying to cover up the crime committed by men belonging to the “upper caste”. The police, meanwhile, have filed 19 FIRs – not against the accused – but against “unknown people” for a conspiracy to defame the state government even though their probe into the case is being termed as misleading.
