Former Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan is healthy and well!

The news concerning Sumitra Mahajan demise is fake and it has sparked concerns amongst her party members. Shashi Tharoor in a recent tweet rubbished the reports of Mahajan’s sad demise and shared his best wishes for her health.

A series of reports about Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan’s death erupted after someone tweeted about the same causing confusion amongst her fellow party members.

The news of Mahajan’s sad demise erupted after Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, in a now-deleted tweet, said that he had learnt of her passing away.

Tharoor in a recent tweet rubbished the reports of Mahajan’s sad demise and shared his best wishes for her health.

“Thanks @kailashOnline. I have deleted my tweet. I wonder what motivates people to invent and spread such evil news that takes in people. My best wishes for Sumitra ji’s health and long life”, Tharoor wrote in his recent tweet.

The reports of Mahajan’s sad demise have sparked concerns amongst her family members and her colleagues.

Mahajan turned 78 on April 12, and she is one of the senior-most members of the Parliament. She began her political career at the age of 39, and became the deputy mayor and subsequently a Member of Parliament from Indore in Madhya Pradesh.

She has won eight consecutive elections in the Indore constituency.

In retrospect, Mahajan was re-elected to 16th Lok Sabha member from Indore to serve her eight terms in the constituency, in 2014.

On 6 June 2014, she was unanimously elected as the Speaker of 16th Lok Sabha.
