Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman holds first pre-budget consultation

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the first pre-budget consultation with economists on June 19 in New Delhi. This meeting marks the beginning of preparations for the upcoming Budget 2024-25.

The meeting was attended by key officials including Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, Finance Secretary T. V. Somanathan, and secretaries from various departments including economic affairs, revenue, financial services, and corporate affairs. Chief Economic Adviser V Anantha Nageswaran was also present.


The budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 is expected to be presented in Parliament in the second half of July. This budget will outline the economic agenda for the Modi 3.0 government. The Finance Minister will need to find ways to boost growth without increasing inflation and identify resources to meet the coalition government’s needs.
