Delhi Police wants to end farmers’ protests tonight; Ghaziabad DM orders to vacate Ghazipur protest site


The Ghaziabad administration has reportedly served an ultimatum to protesting farmers to vacate the Ghazipur protest site. The district administration might transfer forward to take away blockade at UP Gate on Delhi-Meerut Expressway by Thursday evening.

The Ghaziabad officials have told the farmers to end the protest tonight.

The farmers are also asked to surrender their passports. The police have named 37 farmer leaders, including Rakesh Tikait, Yogendra Yadav and Medha Patkar, in the FIR that mentioned charges of attempt to murder, rioting and criminal conspiracy.

A heavy deployment of police has been made at the Ghazipur and Ghaziabad border. District Magistrate, Ajay Shanker Pandey along with high ranked police officers have already reached the protest site.

Water and power supply to the farmers will be disconnected.

The farmers have been camping at the Delhi-Ghazipur border in protest against the three contentious farm bills is being led by Bharatiya Kisan Union spokesperson, Rakesh Tikait. He has also been named in the FIR for the violence against the Republic Day scenario. Moreover, 37 farmers are also named in the FIR and a lot of 25 FIRs are filed against farmers’ unions.

“Traffic alert Gazipur border is closed on both sides. Traffic is diverted from Road no 56, Akshardham & Nizammudin Khatta. Pl avoid NH 9 & NH 24 & take alternate route via Chilla, DND, Afsara, Bhopra & Loni borders.,” Delhi Traffic Police said in a tweet.

The number of farmers protesting has depreciated as protest sites are being vacated gradually and the officials’ main aim remains to end farmers’ agitation.
