All Delhi government offices will remain closed on October 7 (Tuesday) in observance of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, the Delhi government announced in an official statement on Sunday.

To mark the occasion, several programmes, processions, and tribute meetings will be organised across the national capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is expected to participate in multiple events honouring Maharishi Valmiki’s legacy.

Maharishi Valmiki, revered as the ‘Adikavi’ (first poet) of Indian literature and the author of the Ramayana, is remembered as a symbol of equality, justice, and humanity. His teachings, Chief Minister Gupta noted, continue to guide society toward values of respect, equality, and dignity.

“This occasion is an opportunity to remember the life, works, and contributions of Maharishi Valmiki to society,” Gupta said. She added that the Delhi government remains committed to promoting education, empowerment, and equal opportunities for the Dalit community, while upholding the values of social justice that Maharishi Valmiki espoused.

A special programme will be organised at the Delhi Secretariat on Monday, led by the Department of Social Welfare, focusing on discussions around the life and teachings of Maharishi Valmiki. Both Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Social Welfare Minister Ravindra Indraj Singh are scheduled to attend the event.
