Pune Porsche Accident Update: Grandfather of teen arrested for wrongful confinement

Surendra Agrawal has previously been charge-sheeted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly hiring Chhota Rajan in 2009 to kill Shiv Sena corporator Ajay Bhosale.

Surendra Kumar Agarwal, the grandfather of a 17-year-old boy accused of fatally knocking down two IT professionals with his luxury Porsche car in Pune, has been arrested for the wrongful confinement of their family driver. The teenager’s father has also been implicated in the case.

On Friday, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar revealed that an attempt was made to falsely establish that the minor was not driving the car at the time of the accident.

Based on a complaint filed by the family driver, Yerawada Police registered a separate offense against the teen’s grandfather and father under IPC sections 365 (kidnapping with intent to secretly and wrongfully confine a person) and 368 (wrongfully concealing or keeping a person in confinement).

“After the accident, the teen’s grandfather and father allegedly took the driver’s phone and confined him in their bungalow from May 19 to May 20. The driver was freed by his wife,” an official from the crime branch told PTI.

The incident in question involved a Porsche, allegedly driven by the teenager, who was reportedly drunk at the time. The car killed two motorbike-borne software engineers, Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, in the Kalyani Nagar area of Pune early on Sunday.

On Friday, a local court in Pune remanded the six accused arrested in the case, including the teenager’s father, to judicial custody. The teenager remains in an observation home until June 5.
