
Supreme Court of India to unveil the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar celebrating the Constitution Day on November 26 in its premises. The President of India Droupadi Murmu and the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud is likely to grace the occasion as a chief guest. The unveiling will be followed by a set of events in the auditorium of the Supreme court.
The statue will be seven foot tall, showing Dr BR Ambedkar in lawyer’s dress, holding the copy of constitution of India in his hands. The location of the statue will be in the front lawn and garden in the Supreme Court campus.

The proposal was passed when group of Ambedkarite lawyers of Supreme Court demanded for the in installation of the statue. Advocate-on-record Pratik Bombarde presented a memorandum to Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on April 14 for the same, “History tells us that in the 1970s under the leadership of politician and social worker Dadasaheb Gaikwad, we Ambedkarites had to struggle for the installation of his statue inside the Parliament. And we are now struggling for many years for the installation of a statue of Babasaheb inside the Supreme Court,” read the memorandum (quoted by The Leaflet).
