Two farm sector bills are under consideration for passing in the Lok Sabha. Congress MP Ravneet Singh questions the reforms “If we talk about the provisions it is not your domain, why are you dealing with it? Why does the state legislative assemblies exist then? Will you bring everything under the ambit of Parliament?”
Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu has spoken in defence to retain the Minimum support price (MSP). He said that it helped to maintain stock of foodgrains in lockdowns during the pandemic but the bill does not mention any guarantee for MSP.
“In the six months, only a crop of maize has entered the market. The MSP is 1700 but it is being sold at Rs 700 in Punjab today. Soldiers from Haryana and Punjab are fighting at the borders. How will their families survive if there is no guarantee of MSP?” he asked.
Protests are being held by farmers across India against agriculture bills tabled in Lok Sabha.
