According to Moneycontrol, the Narendra Modi-led government has reduced minimum time limit to solve public grievances i.e. from 60 days to 45 days after a suggestion from a parliamentary committee in March.
In 2020, the Centre had received more than 2.2 million public grievances on a portal. Within this year, 1.2 million people have already registered complaints on the Centralized Public Grievances Redressal and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS).
The latest order by the government stated, “The CPGRAMS grievances shall be resolved promptly as soon as they are received and maximum within 45 days.”
However, coronavirus-related grievances will continue to be prioritized and resolved within three days.
Furthermore, the order said that an analysis of grievance disposals in CPGRAMS disclosed that about 87 per cent Ministries or Departments had disposed of the grievances in less than 45 days.
Seven departments contributed to around 70 per cent of all complaints received in 2020 with the highest number of almost five lakh complaints registered against the Department of Financial Services alongside three lakh complaints against the Department of Telecommunications. In addition, the Department of Posts, Labour and Employment and Central Bureau of Direct Taxes and Railways have received maximum complaints.
“In case redressal is not possible within the prescribed time-frame due to the circumstances beyond the control of the Government such as sub-judice matters/policy issues/etc., an interim reply shall be given to the citizen”, the government order added.
