The Union Cabinet has announced several important decisions impacting railway employees, port authorities, and the status of Indian languages. These initiatives aim to enhance productivity, provide financial rewards, and acknowledge linguistic heritage. Below are the key highlights of each approval:
Productivity Linked Bonus for Railway Employees
The Cabinet has approved a Productivity Linked Bonus equivalent to 78 days of wages for 11.72 lakh non-gazetted railway employees. This move is set to boost the morale and productivity of railway staff, rewarding them for their contributions. The bonus aims to recognize and incentivize the workforce that plays a crucial role in the functioning and efficiency of the railways.
Modified Productivity Linked Reward (PLR) Scheme for Port Workers
The Cabinet has also approved a modified Productivity Linked Reward (PLR) Scheme to benefit approximately 20,704 employees of Major Port Authorities and Dock Labour Board from 2020-21 to 2025-26. This scheme carries a total financial implication of ₹198 crores. The decision aims to enhance the efficiency and productivity of port workers by offering financial incentives based on performance.
Classical Language Status for Regional Languages
In a move to celebrate and preserve India’s rich linguistic heritage, the Cabinet has approved conferring the status of Classical Language to five regional languages: Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, Assamese, and Bengali. This recognition is intended to preserve and promote these languages’ historical and cultural significance, giving them a distinguished position within India’s linguistic diversity.
These Cabinet decisions reflect the government’s commitment to improving employee benefits across sectors, fostering productivity and performance, and preserving India’s diverse linguistic culture.
