A helicopter carrying a family from Delhi returning from Badrinath Temple made an emergency landing in Tehri district on Saturday after developing a technical fault mid-flight, officials said. All seven people onboard, including the pilot, were reported safe.

According to officials, the helicopter was operating on the Char Dham pilgrimage route and was returning from Badrinath when the pilot detected a technical issue during the journey. As a precautionary measure, the pilot carried out a controlled emergency landing in the Tehri region to ensure passenger safety.

Authorities confirmed that the aircraft was carrying six passengers from Delhi along with the pilot at the time of the incident. No injuries or casualties were reported, and all occupants were safely evacuated after the landing.

Emergency response teams and local administration officials quickly reached the site after receiving information about the precautionary landing. Technical teams are expected to inspect the helicopter to determine the exact nature of the fault.

The incident comes during the ongoing Char Dham Yatra season, when helicopter services witness a sharp rise in demand from pilgrims travelling to shrines including Kedarnath Temple and Badrinath in the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand.

Helicopter operations in the hill state are often subject to strict monitoring due to rapidly changing weather conditions, difficult terrain and heavy seasonal traffic during pilgrimage months. Aviation authorities and state officials have repeatedly emphasized safety checks and operational protocols for flights operating in mountainous areas.

In recent years, the Uttarakhand government and aviation regulators have strengthened oversight of pilgrimage-related helicopter services following multiple weather disruptions and emergency incidents in high-altitude regions. Pilgrim air services remain a crucial mode of transportation for elderly devotees and travelers seeking quicker access to remote shrines.

Officials said the passengers were later shifted safely from the landing site and alternative arrangements were being assessed. Further details are expected after completion of the technical inspection and preliminary aviation review.

The successful emergency landing was credited to the pilot’s timely response and adherence to aviation safety procedures, preventing what could have turned into a major accident in the mountainous terrain.
