In a shocking incident, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique, aged 66, was shot dead in Mumbai’s Bandra East on Saturday evening by unidentified assailants. The former Maharashtra minister sustained multiple serious injuries in the attack and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Two suspects have been detained by Nirmal Nagar police in connection with the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, with police and crime branch officers actively working to determine the motive behind the attack and apprehend any additional culprits.
A person accompanying Baba Siddique during the attack also sustained injuries and is receiving medical treatment.
Baba Siddique, a prominent figure in Mumbai politics, had earlier this year left the Congress party and joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) under the leadership of Ajit Pawar. He had served as the MLA for Bandra West for three terms and was well-known for his annual iftar parties attended by Bollywood celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.
Siddique’s death has sent shockwaves through the political and local communities, and the police are leaving no stone unturned in their investigation. His son, Zeeshan Siddique, is currently the MLA for Bandra East.
As the investigation continues, the city mourns the loss of a veteran political leader and awaits further updates on the detainment of the suspects.
