Ajit Pawar faction files caveat in Supreme Court amidst NCP symbol dispute

On February 7, the Ajit Pawar faction took preemptive legal action by filing a caveat in the Supreme Court, ensuring a hearing if the Sharad Pawar group challenges an Election Commission (EC) order recognizing the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister’s faction as the authentic Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), PTI reported.

Advocate Abhikalp Pratap Singh filed the caveat on behalf of the Ajit Pawar faction, aiming to prevent any unilateral court decision if the opposing group approaches the Supreme Court.

In a significant setback to party founder Sharad Pawar, the Election Commission (EC) declared the Ajit Pawar faction as the legitimate NCP on Tuesday. Furthermore, the poll panel assigned the NCP symbol ‘clock’ to Ajit Pawar’s group.

The EC justified its decision, stating that it followed established criteria, including assessments of the party’s constitution, organizational majority, and legislative representation, to determine the authenticity of the NCP factions.
