13,244 cases of child pornography and sexual abuse lodged in National Cybercrime Reporting Portal from 1st March to 18th September: Union Minister Smriti Irani

As per the National Crime Records Bureau almost 13,244 cases of child pornography and rape complaints lodged in National Cybercrime Reporting Portal from 1st Mach to 18 September, 2020. There has been a huge increase in child sexual abuse cases since the lockdown.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has information about 420 cases of child sexual abuse reported from 1st March 2020 to 31st August 2020. As reported by Childline India Foundation (CIF), 3941 calls have been received by CIF regarding child sexual cases from 1st March 2020 to 15th September 2020. Various human rights and child rights organizations had warned about the increase of child sexual abuse cases during the lockdown as children would be in closer proximity to the perpetrator who also happens to be a family member.
