Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has announced the launch of a new ‘Healthy Mode’ on the food delivery platform, marking what he described as one of the company’s biggest steps toward living up to its mission of “better food for more people.”
In a detailed note, Goyal admitted that while Zomato revolutionised eating out and ordering in, it hadn’t made it easy for users to eat genuinely nourishing meals. “We made eating out and ordering in easier than ever, but we never really helped people truly eat better,” he said, adding that the guilt over this gap had weighed on him for years.
For years, there’s been something about Zomato that made me uneasy.
We made eating out and ordering in easier than ever, but we never really helped people truly eat better. Yes, you could find a salad or a smoothie bowl, but the truth is, if you wanted to eat genuinely… pic.twitter.com/zBmnI1c0th

The newly introduced Healthy Mode features a Healthy Score for every dish, ranging from Low to Super, calculated on the basis of protein, complex carbs, fibre, and micronutrients—going beyond just calories. Powered by AI and restaurant data, the system also explains why a dish qualifies as healthy.
Goyal emphasised that the bar for the new feature has been kept high: “Professional athletes can rely on Healthy Mode to find food that works for them.”
The feature has gone live in Gurgaon and will expand to other cities soon. “This is just the beginning—and for the first time, I feel we’re moving meaningfully closer to truly living up to our mission,” Goyal added.
