Versace Summer Spring 2021 fashion show highlights

After announcing to go for a digital runway show at Milan Fashion Week, Donatella Versace takes you underwater “to discover the lost city of Versacepolis”. Versace SS21 Fashion Show was like a bright coloured painting coming to life on theseabed.

Fashion company Versace revealed its Summer-Spring 2021 collection for Milan Fashion Week, on online platforms and avoided a physical runway show for safety purposes. The Milan-based luxury brand staged an undersea themed runway, inspired by the healing nature after lack of human activity during the lockdown. Versace SS21 Fashion Show was like a bright coloured painting coming to life on the seabed.

To create a scene of the submerged fictional city of Versaceopolis, the set had a sand runway, crumbled pillars, statues and shadows of the waves all over the stage. You may feel like you have been teleported to Atlantis and Greek gods and goddess are walking wearing classic Trésor de la Mer print from the 90s. Models with gelled hair, fishlike reflective skin and bright coloured outfits filled with starfish and shell prints on them, were complementary to the theme.

Versace had every colour on its palette and from outfits to models, the whole show was like a colourful painting. The runway was as diverse as it could be, whether we talk about the cultural and ethnic diversity or the physique of the models. We could spot models of almost every race, ethnicity, colour and body type.

Donatella Versace shares her idea behind the theme and Versacepolis, “I wanted to create something disruptive, something that could be in tune with what has changed inside all of us. To me that meant dreaming of a new world. A world made of popping colors and fantastic creatures and a world in which we can all coexist peacefully.”

The handbag line introduced by Versace had some unconventional designs with a combination of bright colours and classic black. While almost all had short chains with large links of bright colours, some had wide polymer straps and some  came with regular leather straps.  The two very unique designs in this line were a round neon orange handbag with bubbly erections on it and another one was a bundle-like handbag with a tint of purple and a big knot.
