History of Ram Navami
The history of Ram Navami dates back to the Treta Yuga, when Lord Rama was born to King Dashratha and Queen Kaushalya in Ayodhya. The sacred story of his birth is narrated in the Ramayana, one of the two great Sanskrit epics of Hinduism.
According to the Ramayana, King Dashratha and his three queens performed the Putra Kamesti Yagna (a ritual for begetting a child) on the advice of Rishi Vashishtha. After consuming the blessed kheer from the yagna, the queens conceived, and on the ninth day of the Chaitra month (March/April), Queen Kaushalya gave birth to Rama, while the other queens gave birth to Bharat, Lakshmana, and Shatrughna.
