Toxic relationships happen when the couple believe that love is the only component required to stay in a relationship. They ignore respect, trust and affection. People should understand that love should not be the only reason to tolerate what you don’t deserve.

Here are 6 signs that prove that you are in a toxic relationship.

1. The Blame Game

When your significant other continues to blame you for your past mistakes and makes you feel guilty about it after several months, it is known as keeping a relationship scorecard. Instead of dealing with the present issue, you or your partner might keep on bringing topics from the past that might hurt the other person again.

2. Dropping hints

You or your partner might start dropping hints instead of just telling what is bothering them. This clearly shows that the couple is not comfortable with communicating and opening up with each other. One should communicate their feelings and insecurities timely.

3. Blackmailing

When one person has complaints regarding the other, they should address them in a straightforward way instead of blackmailing them. For example, if you think the other person is being rude, just tell them that they are being rude instead of saying that you would rather not stay with a person who is rude.

4. Blaming your partner on your bad day

If one person is frustrated for some reason and the other person is dealing with some work issues and can’t focus on their significant other, the person with the bad mood cannot call him/her insensitive or ignorant. They too have commitments of their own and we can’t blame them for our emotions.

5. Jealousy

A little jealousy is acceptable but it is not acceptable when the other person makes a big deal out of their partner talking, calling or texting another girl or guy. This often leads to going through your partner’s phone. This clearly shows a lack of trust and understanding in a relationship.

6. Covering the problem with exciting plans

Whenever you get into a major fight, covering the problem with a diamond ring or a new shirt can never be the solution. It is like covering a problem with superficial pleasures. In this way, the one who is wrong will never be accountable for their mistakes. Dealing with the problem and facing it is always the solution.
