COVID-19 cases in India rise to 2.26 lakh, 9,851 fresh cases in the last 24 hours

The number of Coronavirus cases in India has hit a new high, for the second day in a row, over 9,000 positive Coronavirus cases were recorded in a single day. The number of total cases in India has crossed the milestone of 2.26 lakh. At least six states and union territories recorded a big spike in the number of cases in the last 24 hours – Kerala, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Assam.

In the last 24 hours, the states recorded 273 fatalities. This is the highest number of deaths recorded in a single day since the outbreak. The death toll in India has reached 6,348.

Nearly 48% of the Coronavirus patients have recovered from the infection. The total number of active cases stand at 110,960.

  • Maharashtra reported 2,933 fresh Coronavirus cases on Thursday.
  • The total number of Coronavirus cases in Maharashtra stands at 77,793.
  • In the last 24 hours, Mumbai alone accounted for 1,439 cases.
  • The total number of fatalities in the state touched another peak as 123 people succumbed to death.
  • Delhi reported the second-highest number of positive cases in the last 24 hours.
  • The total number of cases in the capital stood at 25,004 as 1,300 new cases were reported on Thursday.
  • Gujarat saw another biggest spike in the number of fresh cases on Thursday.
  • About 495 new cases were recorded, taking the state’s tally to 18,584.
  • The second highest fatalities were recorded by the state, after Maharashtra.

The Health Ministry said, “at least 1,39,485 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The total number of samples tested so far is 42,42,718.”
