Indian benchmark indices traded nearly flat during midday trading on March 16, while several stocks within the Nifty 50 managed to record gains. As of 12:10 PM IST, the Nifty 50 stood at 23,166.80, up 15.70 points (0.07%), while the BSE Sensex was at 74,614.84, gaining 50.92 points (0.07%). The Nifty Bank traded at 53,721.35, down 36.50 points (0.07%), and the Nifty Midcap Select declined 0.46% to 12,560.50.
Despite the subdued movement in the broader market, several Nifty 50 constituents posted gains during the session.
Among the top performers, UltraTech Cement rose 3.7% to trade at ₹11,009.0, marking the highest gain among Nifty 50 stocks in midday trading.
Shares of Grasim Industries were also higher, advancing 2.8% to ₹2,641.1. Similarly, Hindalco Industries gained 2.8%, trading at ₹935.4 during the session.
Metal major JSW Steel recorded an increase of 2.0%, with the stock trading at ₹1,141.9.
Banking heavyweight HDFC Bank moved up 1.7% to ₹830.8, while Bajaj Finance gained 1.2% to trade at ₹865.3.
In the automobile segment, Mahindra & Mahindra rose 1.2% to ₹2,964.7, and Maruti Suzuki India increased 1.1% to ₹12,728.0.
Aviation stock InterGlobe Aviation also traded higher, rising 1.1% to ₹4,202.7.
Meanwhile, Tata Steel recorded a 0.9% gain, trading at ₹185.2 in midday deals.
Overall, select cement, metal, financial, and automobile stocks were among the top gainers within the Nifty 50 during midday trading on March 16, even as the broader indices showed limited movement.
