The benchmark indices ended higher on March 16, supported by gains in select heavyweight stocks across cement, automobiles, financials and metals.
The Nifty 50 closed at 23,408.80, up 257.70 points or 1.11%, while the Sensex settled at 75,502.85, rising 938.93 points or 1.26%. The Bank Nifty also ended higher at 54,413.40, gaining 655.55 points or 1.22%.
Among the Nifty 50 constituents, UltraTech Cement emerged as the top gainer of the day, with the stock closing at ₹11,090, up 4.5%.
Grasim Industries was the second-largest gainer, ending the session at ₹2,656.9, rising 3.4%.
Mahindra & Mahindra also saw strong buying interest, with shares closing at ₹3,029, up 3.3%.
Eternal finished higher at ₹222.5, gaining 3.2%, while Trent closed at ₹3,581.2, up 2.7%.
Among financial stocks, HDFC Bank ended the session at ₹838.8, rising 2.7%, while Bajaj Finance closed at ₹873.8, up 2.2%.
In the auto space, Bajaj Auto settled at ₹9,063, gaining 2.1%.
Metal stock JSW Steel also advanced, closing at ₹1,143, up 2.1%.
Meanwhile, ITC rounded out the list of top gainers, ending at ₹307.5, up 2.0%.
The gains in these stocks helped the Nifty 50 close firmly in positive territory during Monday’s trading session.
