The Sensex closed higher by 221.69 points, or 0.27%, at 82,566.37, while the Nifty 50 added 76.15 points, or 0.30%, to settle at 25,418.90. Several heavyweights from these sectors featured among the top gainers on the Nifty 50.
Tata Steel closed at ₹202.6, ending the session higher by 4.5%, making it the top gainer on the index for the day. Larsen & Toubro finished at ₹3,938.0, registering a gain of 3.8% at close. Axis Bank ended the session at ₹1,364.9, up 3.4%.
Tata Motors (passenger vehicles segment) closed at ₹352.0, also higher by 3.4% during the session. Eternal settled at ₹274.3, recording a gain of 3.0% at close. NTPC ended at ₹358.5, up 3.0%.
Hindalco Industries closed at ₹1,027.0, rising 2.9% for the day. Adani Ports finished at ₹1,417.1, higher by 2.6%. Coal India ended the session at ₹455.0, up 2.5%. ONGC closed at ₹274.8, gaining 2.3%.
