The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed during the morning session on Thursday, May 28, 2026, on account of Bakrid, also known as Eid-ul-Adha or Eid-ul-Zuha.

However, unlike the equity market, commodity trading on MCX is expected to resume in the evening session. This means traders in gold, silver, crude oil, natural gas and other commodity futures should check revised session timings before placing trades.

The holiday has created some confusion among market participants over whether the closure falls on Wednesday, May 27 or Thursday, May 28. As per the market holiday schedule, the official holiday for NSE, BSE and the morning MCX session falls on May 28.

MCX trading schedule for Bakrid holiday

Date Day MCX Status
May 27, 2026 Wednesday Open
May 28, 2026 Thursday Morning session closed, evening session expected to open
May 29, 2026 Friday Open

The NSE and BSE will remain fully closed on May 28 across equity, derivatives, currency derivatives, SLB and EGR segments. MCX, however, generally follows a different structure for certain holidays, where morning trade remains shut and evening trade resumes for internationally linked commodities.

Gold, silver, crude oil and natural gas traders should remain alert as global markets may continue moving during the Indian holiday period. Any sharp movement in crude oil, bullion prices or the rupee may reflect in domestic commodity prices once trading resumes.

Bakrid is one of the scheduled market holidays in May 2026. Investors and traders are advised to plan positions, margin requirements and settlements accordingly before the holiday session.
