Sydney, October 27 (Monday):
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially confirmed that Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on October 25, 2025.

Following the incident, Iyer was immediately taken to a hospital for medical evaluation. Scans revealed a laceration injury to his spleen, prompting doctors to admit him for further observation and treatment.

“He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well,” the BCCI said in its statement.

The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his condition. The Indian team doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas Iyer to oversee his day-to-day progress and ensure a safe recovery process.

The injury occurred when Iyer took a running catch near backward point to dismiss Alex Carey, during which he appeared to have hurt his rib cage upon landing. He left the field soon after and did not return for the remainder of the match.

While he remains stable, the medical team has advised continued observation for several days before determining his return timeline.

Shreyas Iyer is not part of India’s T20 squad, which continues its tour following the ODI series.
