Supreme Court: Fresh SOP to revitalize physical hearing of some cases from Sept 1

The top court has been initiating cases for hearing via., video-conferencing mode from March 2020 pertaining to the restraints on physical gatherings. However, the bar council and lawyers contiguously demanded for physical hearing to resume on an immediate effect.

The Standard procedure stated that, Wearing of mask, frequent use of hand sanitiser and maintaining physical distancing norms are mandatory for all entrants into the Supreme Court premises, including into the Courtrooms.
On August 18, the top court specified that physical hearing in the apex court, amidst the COVID call, may initialize soon. A CJI bench announced that that physical hearing within the apex court may start within 10 days. The idea of physical hearing came into highlights in July 2021, yet again, when the SCBA wrote a letter to CJI citing the need for physical hearing in the apex court quoting, the COVID-19 situation within the capital has become “almost normal”.
