GST Council approves biometric-based Aadhaar authentication to check fake invoicing

At the 53rd GST Council Meeting, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the approval of biometric-based Aadhaar authentication across India.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman says, “There is going to be a rolling out of biometric-based Aadhaar authentication on an all-India basis. This will help us to combat fraudulent input tax credit claims made through fake invoices in the cases.”

Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Sitharaman chaired a pre-budget meeting with Finance Ministers from all States and Union Territories at Bharat Mandapam. This meeting is part of the preparations for the Union Budget 2024-25.

Participants included Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna and Rajasthan Finance Minister Diya Kumari.
