Now a days banking operations are more inclined towards usage of technology than before. Money transactions have become very easier with the introduction of various e-wallets namely Paytm, NEFT / RTGS, UPI, Google Pay etc. While they give you the privilege to transfer money with just one click sitting anywhere across the globe, the probability of making mistakes while making a transaction and losing your money is also high with this method. If you type wrong account number or any detail that are asked while making the transaction, the money sent by you will get transferred to someone else’s account. If you are lucky and the bank account number you typed by mistake is not available in the bank data, then all the money will be returned to your bank account. But if the account number is present in the bank’s data, then that money will reach the account of the person to whom the account number belongs and you’ll lose the money.
Here is what you must do to get your money back if you transfer it to wrong account:
1) Inform the bank:– The very first thing that you have to do is to contact your branch manager and tell him/her everything including the day (date) of sending the money, the time of sending it, your account number and the account number of the recipient of the money. You can either email or make a phone call but it would be best if you talk personally.
2) Write to the bank to return money :- When the money has been transferred to someone else’s account, it must be returned. You have to write to both the banks to get the money back.
3) Lodge a complaint:- As you can’t contact the person directly, you have to make a complaint to the bank where you have transferred your money by mistake. Bank will find out the person from the account information and seek his permission to return the money. Only then you’ll get your money back.
Important note: Recovering of money is subject to Bank/Wallet’s policy.
