Top 10 exceptional goals at the Euro 2020

The tournament was recharged with some incredible goals, 142 scored in 51 games with an average of 2.79 scored in a match with Patrik Schick and Cristiano Ronaldo sharing 5 goals each, but the Portuguese managed to clinch the Euro 2020 Golden Boot with one assist.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe, the tournament was played in the year 2021 while retaining the name UEFA Euro 2020, it was played across 11 venues which had some of the iconic stadiums featuring across Europe. 1. Patrik Schick, the Czech Republic vs Scotland

The Czech Republic surprised all the viewers with their remarkable performance and all thanks to Patrik Schick who was the leading goal scorer in the tournament alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

In what might be the goal of the season scored by Schick, almost from the halfway line against the Scots which might go down one of the best goals in the UEFA Euro history.

2. Mikkel Damsgaard, Denmark vs England

England conceded only two goals in the regulation time of the tournament one of which was scored by Denmark’s Mikkel Damsgaard with an absolute thunderbolt of a free-kick at the top of the corner. It was the only free-kick goal in the tournament.

3. Xherdan Shaqiri, Switzerland vs Turkey

Shaqiri, who played relatively less game time at Liverpool was eager to show off his skills at the Euros. He who has a nack at scoring some superb goals in the Euro by scoring a bicycle kick in the 2016 edition, but this year he scored a gorgeous goal against Turkey when he curled the ball of his weaker foot to score a sensational goal which the Turkish keeper had no chance of saving.

4. Paul Pogba, France vs Switzerland

The French were eliminated by the Swiss on penalties, but the goal from Paul Pogba would be replayed by many for the years to come. The Frenchmen curled the ball into the top right corner from the outside of the box without any mistake leaving the goalkeeper absolutely clueless.

5. Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal vs Germany

No list is complete without Cristiano Ronaldo in it. Ronaldo who earned the top spot for a goal scored in the tournament and showed that “age is just a number” when the Portuguese striker, having cleared a Germany corner in his area took off like a bullet to cover almost a 100 yard to tap in a goal for Portugal.

6. Luka Modric, Croatia vs Scotland

The former Ballon d’Or winner and Real Madrid midfielder scored an outrageous goal from outside of his right foot smashing the curling shot in the net and left the keeper no opportunity to defend it.

7. Thorgan Hazard, Belgium vs Portugal

Belgium, knocking the defending champion Portugal out of the tournament in the round of 16, Thorgan rising from his brother Eden Hazard of Real Madrid, shadow smashed a thunderous shot from outside the penalty box to knock out Portugal, would definitely be counted among the top best goals of the championship.

8. Stefan Lainer, Austria vs North Macedonia

The Austrian right-back might be one of the surprising players in terms of scoring a goal when the defender produced an exquisite finish from the tightest of angles to set his side to win against North Macedonia.

9. Andriy Yarmolenko,  Ukraine vs the Netherlands

Ukraine who almost got out of the group with narrowly missing and ageing a third-place finish in the group, one of the best highlights of the side might be the goal from Andriy Yarmolenko. The West Ham winger shot an absolute pile driver of a shot to go through the Netherlands keeper.

10. Andreas Christensen, Denmark vs Russia

Denmark was playing like they could eliminate their 1992 tournament success but was knocked out in the semis. Andreas Christensen scored a goal which kept the Danish hopes alive to qualify for the round of 16 by scoring a thunderous and precise shot from outside the penalty box through the crowd beating the goalkeeper.
