
The media and entertainment industry mourned the loss of veteran media mogul Ramoji Rao, who passed away on Saturday morning (June 8) at the age of 87. Following the news, an outpouring of tributes from fans and prominent figures in film, sports, and politics flooded social media platforms.
SS Rajamouli Pays Tribute and Requests Bharat Ratna for Ramoji Rao
Filmmaker SS Rajamouli, known for his epic movies, expressed his profound grief and respect for Ramoji Rao on X (formerly Twitter). Rajamouli’s heartfelt post highlighted Rao’s immense contributions and called for the highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna, to be conferred upon him.
“ONE man with his 50 years of resilience, hard work, and innovation provided employment, livelihood, and hope for millions. The only way we can pay tribute to Ramoji Rao Garu is by conferring him with ‘BHARAT RATNA’,” Rajamouli wrote.
A Visit to Ramoji Rao’s Residence
Rajamouli also visited Ramoji Rao’s residence in the famous Ramoji Film City to pay his last respects. He reiterated his appeal for the Bharat Ratna, emphasizing Rao’s role as a trailblazer across multiple sectors.
“One man put up so many institutions in so many sectors… He stood as a role model to many… We can pay tribute to him by conferring him with Bharat Ratna. I request both the state govt and the central govt that he definitely deserves it,” Rajamouli stated.
Tributes from Other Notable Figures
Telugu film director Srinu Vaitla also expressed his sorrow over Ramoji Rao’s passing, acknowledging the deep impact Rao had on his life and career.
“I cannot describe my love towards Ramoji Rao… He’s a great man. It is extremely saddening. It is a great loss. I convey my condolence to his family and pray to God that his soul may rest in peace,” Vaitla said.
Ramoji Rao’s Legacy
Ramoji Rao passed away while undergoing treatment at Star Hospital in Hyderabad, Telangana. His passing marks the end of an era, but his legacy endures through his monumental contributions to media and business.
Under his leadership, Eenadu emerged as a leading force in Telugu media. His business ventures extended beyond journalism, including Usha Kiran Movies (a film production house), Mayuri Film Distributors, Margadarsi Chit Fund (a financial services firm), and Dolphin Group of Hotels. He also headed the ETV Network of television channels.
In recognition of his contributions, Ramoji Rao was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, by then-President Pranab Mukherjee in 2016.
