The legal saga surrounding businessman Raj Kundra and actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra has taken another turn as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) provisionally attaches assets worth a staggering ₹97.79 crore in connection to a high-profile money laundering probe. Allegations stem from an alleged Bitcoin-based Ponzi scheme orchestrated by a Singapore-based entity, Variable Tech Private Limited, amounting to an astounding ₹6,600 crore.
However, amidst mounting scrutiny, their advocate Prashant Patil has come forth with a staunch defense, asserting that there’s no prima facie case against his clients, Mr. Raj Kundra and Mrs. Shilpa Shetty Kundra.
In a recent statement, Prashant Patil, representing Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra, emphasized their commitment to due process and adherence to the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Patil reiterated, “On the face of it, there is no prima facie case made out against my clients…We have faith in the fair investigation. We stand committed to cooperate with the authorities as and when required.”
Patil adds, “We shall follow the due process of law and take necessary steps as prescribed under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act to protect the liberty and property of my clients . I believe when we make our fair representation before the Honourable Enforcement Directorate , even the investigation agencies may grant justice to us . We have faith in the fair investigation. We stand committed to cooperate with the authorities as and when required.”
The ED alleges that Variable Tech amassed a staggering 80,000 bitcoins from investors nationwide, promising lucrative returns. Funds totaling ₹6,606 crore were purportedly funneled through nine firms for the acquisition of properties abroad. Among the assets provisionally attached are a residential flat in Juhu, currently in the name of Shilpa Shetty Kundra, a residential bungalow in Pune, and equity shares held by Raj Kundra.
As the legal battle unfolds, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra remain steadfast in their defense, maintaining their innocence in the face of allegations.
