HBO’s popular fantasy series, House of the Dragon, will return for a second season, according to showrunner Ryan Condal. More dragons will be introduced in the upcoming season of the Game of Thrones prequel, with filming scheduled to begin soon.
During an FYC screening of the hit series in Los Angeles on Tuesday, co-creator Ryan Condal stated, “You’re going to meet five new dragons. Condal stated that the 2023 season’s filming will begin “very shortly” after that.
The House of the Dragon cast members Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), Paddy Considine (King Viserys/Targaryen), Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen), Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower), Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon), Fabien Frankel (Criston Cole), and Emily Carey (young Alicent Hightower) attended the event with Condal and Martin. Condal, Martin, and the actors joined Josh Gad for a panel discussion after they screened “Lord of the Tides,” the eighth episode of season one.
Josh Gad moderated the Q&A with the panel and did it in an unorthodox but entertaining way. Gad jokingly said, “If you’re wondering what I’m doing here, I’m asking myself the same question”.
“This is a favorite of mine. Of course, I’m hardly objective,” Martin said to the audience as he announced the programme. “I thought it was really powerful. This guy [Condal] has an amazing writing staff. Because if you read my book Fire & Blood, which you should, it’s a fake history. So there are a lot of the details that are in this that are absolutely wonderful and moving that are not in the book. They added stuff, and they added good stuff, which is important.”
