With a teaser for her coming-of-age live-action musical “The Archies,” based on the teenagers of Riverdale, filmmaker Zoya Akhtar brought back fond memories for everyone.
The most anticipated teaser was unveiled on Saturday during Netflix’s Tudum fan event. Suhana Khan, the daughter of Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, Khushi Kapoor, the daughter of late Sridevi, and Agastya Bachchan, the grandson of megastar Amitabh Bachchan, all make their acting debuts in the movie.
The longer than one-minute teaser reveals that the movie is set in 1964 in Riverdale, which is referred to on a railway sign as a “hill station,” a colonial phrase for a town that is higher up than the surrounding plain. Small mountain railway trains operating on tiny gauge rails, commonly referred to as ‘toy trains’ in India, are one of the transportation options serving the hill stations. The teaser begins with a view of a top train huffing into Riverdale station.
The Archies clan enjoys time outside, dancing at gatherings and in classes, and playing music. The teaser also showed Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda, and Khushi Kapoor’s friendship blossoming and experiencing heartbreak.
The cast of the movie also includes young performers Mihir Ahuja, Dot, Yuvraj Menda, and Vedang Raina.
At Tudum 2023, they also gave a live performance of the album’s lead song.
Sharing the teaser’s link, Suhana took to Instagram and wrote, “Are you ready to go back in time? Welcome to The Archies.” Reacting to the teaser, filmmaker Karan Johar commented, “Loveeeeeeeee.” “Woooooo,” Navya Nanda, sister of Agastya commented.
The official release date of ‘The Archies’ has not been revealed yet.
