SS Rajamouli’s RRR to stream on Netflix & ZEE5, OTT giants acquire rights

The post-production stage of SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR, starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan in lead roles, is currently ongoing.

The streaming rights to SS Rajamouli’s upcoming magnum opus RRR have been acquired by Netflix and ZEE5. The producers announced on Wednesday that after the film’s theatrical release, the Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada versions will be made available on ZEE5. According to reports, the Zee group paid more than Rs 300 crore for RRR’s digital and satellite rights. However, neither the network nor the filmmakers have revealed the financial terms of the agreement. The film RRR is currently in post-production. The filmmakers resumed shooting in January of this year, after the country reopened following the first wave of coronavirus. And they worked quickly to finish the film.

RRR’s producers hope to release the film worldwide on October 13. And that plan is entirely dependent on how quickly the ongoing second wave of coronavirus is contained.

The storey of RRR is based on the struggles of Telugu tribal leaders Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. While Ram Charan will play Sitarama, Jr NTR will play Komaram in RRR. Rajamouli has also cast Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in key roles in the film.
