Netflix’s ‘With Love, Meghan’ fails to impress as reviews criticize its superficiality

Meghan Markle’s Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan premiered on March 4, but the reception has been far from the warm welcome she may have hoped for.

Meghan Markle’s anticipated return to the screen with Netflix’s With Love, Meghan has not gone as planned. The eight-episode series, which launched on March 4, was intended to showcase Markle’s lifestyle insights in a warm and inviting manner, embracing “playfulness over perfection.” However, many critics have instead dismissed the show as shallow, self-indulgent, and lacking meaningful content.

In one moment from the show, Markle says, “I feel like you’re watching me fall in love,” seemingly addressing the audience. Yet, according to many reviewers, nothing could be further from the truth. The Daily Mail criticized the series as lacking authenticity, even ridiculing an episode dedicated to making ice cubes. Meanwhile, Variety described the show as “an ego trip not worth taking,” arguing that guests were required to praise Markle before engaging in any real discussions.

The Economist took a harsher approach, comparing Markle’s curated happiness to Marie Antoinette’s infamous detachment from reality. The review highlights her enthusiasm for mundane moments—smiling at cakes, hydrangeas, and even bees—while noting that the show’s release coincided with King Charles III and Kate Middleton’s cancer treatments, making its lighthearted nature feel out of touch.

Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter pointed out the show’s failure to create an emotional connection with audiences. Without authentic conversations about relatable topics like motherhood, the series offers little beyond its aesthetic presentation. The overuse of edible flower sprinkles and Markle’s enthusiasm for simple things like egg yolks only add to the sense of detachment from the realities of everyday life.

As negative reviews pile up, With Love, Meghan risks becoming yet another divisive chapter in Markle’s public life rather than the fresh start she may have envisioned.
