Madame Web deviates from the norm by revealing the unique origin of one of Marvel’s most enigmatic characters.

Dakota Johnson plays Cassandra Webb, a paramedic working in Manhattan who has the power to see into the future and realises she can use this knowledge to change it in this tense thriller.

As she confronts the ghosts of her past, she befriends three young women who, barring a disastrous turn of circumstances in the present, are bound for greatness.

SJ Clarkson directed the film, and Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, Claire Parker, and SJ Clarkson wrote the screenplay, which was based on a tale by Kerem Sanga, together with Sazama and Sharpless. Lorenzo di Bonaventura produced the picture, and Adam Merims, SJ Clarkson, and Claire Parker served as executive producers.

The cast also includes Sydney Sweeney as Julia Cornwall, Isabela Merced as Anya Corazon, Celeste O’Connor as Mattie Franklin, Tahar Rahim as Ezekiel Sims, Mike Epps as O’Neil, Emma Roberts as Mary Parker, and Adam Scott as Ben Parker.

Due to poor reviews, the film only earned $100 million globally, while having a production budget of $80 million.

Sony allegedly abandoned plans for Madame Web to establish a new franchise when the film underperformed at the box office and among critics.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sony was willing to experiment with superhero flicks like Madame Web, which broke away from the genre’s customary clichés.

However, the studio was also searching for “home runs,” and Sony executives were reportedly in a “gloomy” mood following the film’s poor box office performance and critical reception.

Dakota Johnson did not expect to star in another superhero picture after her role in Madame Web since she did not fit in. She was not surprised by the film’s reception.
