Fans of House of the Dragon will be pleased to learn that the highly anticipated second season of the hit HBO series will premiere in June. J.B. Perrette, head of Warner Bros. Discovery streaming and gaming, made the announcement during an interview at Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media, and Telecom conference, Variety reported.
While no specific debut date has been announced, Perrette’s remark provides the most extensive information about the release timeline to far. HBO president Casey Bloys hinted at a “early summer” release in November. During Warner Bros. Discovery’s Q4 earnings call on February 23, CEO David Zaslav reportedly hinted at a release in the following quarter.
House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, and it chronicles the Targaryen dynasty in the fictional kingdom of Westeros. The series is set around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and focuses on the Targaryens’ rule after unifying the Seven Kingdoms.
Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham are among the returning actors for season two. New cast members include Abubakar Salim, Gayle Rankin, Freddie Fox, and Simon Russell Beale.
The first teaser for the upcoming season was released in December 2023, giving viewers an idea of what to expect. The trailer included dramatic imagery suggesting rising tensions between the Targaryens and the Hightowers. The first season of House of the Dragon aired from August 21 to October 23, 2022, and consisted of 10 episodes. The show was renewed for a second season just one week after its debut, thanks to HBO’s record-breaking viewership.
The second season of filming began on April 11, 2023, at Warner Bros. Leavesden Studios. Despite the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes that occurred during filming, work continued undisturbed because the screenplays had already been written.
The Targaryen dynasty’s story continues in House of the Dragon, so fans can expect another captivating season.
