OTT platforms seem to be in process to change the culture of Bollywood cinema. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, big budget directors dream of releasing the movies in theaters seem to have been distancing. Currently with rise in COVID-19 cases, things are nothing going as planned.
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s next lavish sports drama Toofan featuring Farhan Akhtar as a boxer fighting his way to glory that has gone to the streaming platform. As per the reports, Amazon Prime has secured this deal by the movie makers.
During an interview with entertainment portal, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra said that his next film will premiere on May 21 on Amazon Prime Video. This can be an upsetting news for the actual culture of the cinema as Amazon continues to negotiate to buy several big-budgeted films including Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and Sajid Nadiadwala’s Heropanti 2.
Further, though the government has allowed the theaters to function in 100% capacity. Yet, there is a probability that a second full fledged lockdown can be imposed if cases continue to rise. Which is why makers are rushing to release their films on digital platforms to be on the safe side.
